Questionnaire 3
Technical codes and goodwins theory
We can apply our video to Goodwins Theory as our video demonstrates genre characteristics, the genre of our video is hip hop and funk and we believe that we have demonstrated this. In our genre of music stylish and funky clothes is common and so we wanted to establish this as we wore branded clothes and funky caps. We have shown the relationship between lyrics and visual, as some of the verses sung we have dressed up for, for example 'settle for a desk job' we got Ather to wear a shirt and tie and sit behind a desk to give a office like look. We have achieved alot of close ups of the face to emphasise the performers face as alot of hip hop videos have close ups of the performers face. So our video hits the points of Goodwins Theory.
Inspirations
Our inspirations for the video mainly came from the actual lyrics of the song which are all about ‘Rizzle Kicks’ and the ambitions, determination and drive they had as this, this tied in amazingly with the concept of being a youngster for our group because each member of our group have known each other since our childhood days and this video was a great way of implementing the fun we used to have when were youngsters. We all decided to make it very clear that our video would be one considered to be in media terms as a montage however one which would hold a narrative of a child going through his normal day alongside an adult going through his.
The inspirations for our locations came about from the original video by rizzle kicks, we researched what places had been used by them and took into account what places we could class as fun and places where youngsters could spend their day, we came to the conclusion that locations such as parks and a child’s home would be the best for this particular video as that’s where a typical ‘youth’ would spend most of his time at other then in education. Initially we were going to use some sort of school however after giving it much thought we decided not to because when a youngster thinks of school he thinks of education and all the stress related to it therefore we discarded the idea as it would not tie majorly well with the idea of fun
We decided to use certain costumes such as a fireman outfit and an astronaut outfit to create some textual relationship between the lyrics the ambitions and things which were seen to match the lyrics, however we came to the conclusion that we may just be over complicating things and decided to leave this bit out because no youth in this day and age would even be bothered about what they are wearing but the fact that they are allowed out and by this allowing them to have fun. Our inspirations came about not having costumes by this and decided only colourful clothes were needed to portray a sense of happiness and energy throughout the entire video.
Although we were inspired by the song itself by ‘Rizzle Kicks’ one major artist who played a part in getting our video the way it is was ‘Tinie Tempah’ and the way in which he brought a uniqueness to his music video and something very different to the music industry and has carried on doing so since then. This inspired us to make our video very different to others in its genre however keeping to the main conventions and characteristics of this genre so it could be classed as an RnB/Hip Hop Genre.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
We approached the CD cover the same way as the magazine; we stuck to the light colour theme and wanted the text (name of the group and song) to stand out and look eye catching. So overall we believe that our digipak colours have remained consistent bright, bold and vibrant which we believe is an important factor when coming to sell to the audience. Our target audience is aimed at teenagers because due to the high energy it has and the lyrics that are sung in it, our target audience can relate to some parts of the song ‘ambitions has vanished..’ which would be something that will attract teenagers.
Audience Research
Before we constructed and filmed our video, we decided to research upon our audience, as it would be valuable information when filming our own video. We had a lot of feedback from our audience with the main point being energy, Rizzle Kicks as a duo add a lot of enthusiasm and energy to all their music videos, this was something we wanted to implement into our own video. We also decided to get feedback on the Attire Rizzle kicks where wearing in their own video. We also decided to get feedback on the attire Rizzle Kicks were wearing, the response met our own original ideas and we implemented them into our own video. Alongside the idea of energy and enthuasiam we also had many responses back stating we should try to bring a sense of Fun to the video which rizzle kicks always seem to do. Our audience research was helpful in many ways, however most of the feedback we recieved met our original ideas.

Analyse representations in your in your music video. How does mise en scene and performance contribute to representations?
The mise en scene shown throughout our music video can be linked to some representations, whether it’s how the performers are dressed or what props are seen throughout the video. Firstly, the performers were dressed in clothes which were accustom to youth such as baseball caps. This added a certain youth exuberance to the video which was continuous right to the end. The scene during the end of our video highlights this. The water gun fight is something which brings the idea of youth forward and the props used help push this image. Also parts of the performance, where suhail is in the park also highlights the image of youth as when we were children we spent a lot of time in parks, we tried to capture this in our video.
4. How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?
We held many discussions over what our music video should be, and decided that Rizzle Kicks When I was a youngster was best suited to us and we could relate to the song a lot more. Once we decided on our song choice we would than go on to deciding where we were going to film our video we chose different locations as we wanted to have a variety, we also chose locations which linked to our music video. We used Google maps to Map out our locations and as most came with pictures we could see our locations. However, we had previously researched locations and song choices.
We watched Rizzle Kicks When I was A Youngster music video and noted down many aspects which made their video standout and implemented the key aspects into our own. Once our video was complete we decided to import all our footage to Final Cut Pro. This was the software we’d be using to put together our video. At First, we struggled as neither members including myself Knew how to use Final Cut Pro. However, after some practice with some test clips we got the hang of it and started putting our video together. We had previously attempted to put our clips on the time line however, after some feedback we decided to completely start again from scratch. We had got to grips with final cut pro but there were still many functions we weren’t aware about, as things like effects and motions were needed we asked other’s around us who were more familiar with the software, they advised us on how to use to the features. With our blog we decided to screen Grab photos from our music video which would go with what we spoke about on our blog posts, we also Download CD covers from Google which would also be inserted into our blog posts.
We used many types of technology when creating our music video from video cameras to Computer software such as Final Cut Pro. Firstly the camera, the camera we used to record most of our footage was a canon Legria. At first we struggled to get to grips with the camera as it was something we hadn’t used before, we found the interface and designated buttons confusing. However, once we tested it fully we learnt how to use all the main features of the camera but most importantly the main features we required to create our video. This was left to Shane our cameraman as myself and Suhail were the performers in the video, we left Shane to get to grips with the camera whilst offering insight if needed. Once this was all done we began filming our video. The camera was quite frustrating at times, we noticed the lighting and image quality weren’t the best which hindered our progress; however we carried on never the less and decided to film on the days the sunlight was at its brightest giving us a brighter and clearer image.
